From Game of Thrones came to its controversial end, HBO had grandiose plansin terms of scope and scale, for what he wants to get out of telling more stories in Westeros and beyond. But despite all these epic dreams, it turns out that quiet success of one of his intentionally smaller shows could shake everything up.
This show is, of course, the Knight of the Seven Kingdomswhich, despite its oversized hero in the form of Ser Duncan the Great, charmed the audience with its lighter and more intimate vision of the world of Game of Thrones– a story about ordinary people getting by under and away from the grand political politics of the kingdom, rather than huge wars and giant, mythical monsters. But it’s not just the public who are charmed. Apparently so is HBO exec Casey Bloys.
“If you think about the novels, it’s a duo. They’re two unlikely friends and heroes wandering Westeros. From the beginning, they’re not warring families, they’re not dragons, they’re not giant battles. So the creation made sense first, and then the production follows,” Bloys said recently. Deadline of the show’s source material, making the case for a smaller scale project.
But according to Bloys, Knights“Success does not mean that all of a sudden, every Game of Thrones the upcoming spin-off will be a miniseries that avoids major events in Westeros’ past or future – especially since the world of the Seven Kingdoms and the lands beyond are large enough to accommodate series ideas of various sizes, so shows like Knight of the Seven Kingdoms And Dragon House are able to coexist. Bloys also noted that the smaller scale ideas could also allow shows to have tighter production deadlines, suggesting a series like Knight could be an annual show, rather than having significant gaps between seasons (Knightthe second season of air next yearsandwiched between versions 2026 and 2028 for Dragon House(the third and fourth seasons of).
“I’m not looking to change the way we produce television at all. Our business has always been a portfolio business, which means you can have shows like The last of us Or Drago’s Housen, and you can also host smaller scale shows like someone somewhere Or The chair companyadding items that may come back on an annual basis, such as The Pitt“, continued Bloys, “or add elements where the creation lends itself, in Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, I don’t mean easier production, but something that allows, on a smaller scale, to produce and return on an annual basis. »
With something new Game of Thrones material planned until at least 2028, it will be interesting to see how this lesson is applied to the myriad other spin-off projects still in the works for the franchise. Although Bloys has not commented on other projects, Deadline noted that several projects are currently planned, including the recently resurrected Thrones sequel centered on Jon Snow and Arya Stark, the animated project Nine Journeys based on the life of Dragon HouseCorlys Velaryon, the Sea Serpent (with animation legend Genndy Tartakovsky attached), the mythological prequel focused on Nymeria 10,000 shipsand a series based on Aegon Targaryen conquest of Westeros.
Time will tell which one of them could get the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms processing – or reach the screen at all. But at least the future of Game of Thrones on the small screen looks a little brighter thanks to Dunk and Egg…largely pleasure of their creatorwe imagine.
