Swift is keeping her distance after private messages she exchanged with longtime friend Blake Lively surfaced in newly unsealed court documents, a source said. People Magazine.

The texts were partially unsealed on Tuesday, Jan. 20, amid Lively’s ongoing legal battle with “It Ends With Us” co-star and director Justin Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios.

According to the source, the unexpected exit upset Swift.

“Taylor feels like her private life has been affected,” the source said. “Anyone would be uncomfortable if their private texts were suddenly made public.”

Swift, 36, was one of several high-profile figures whose messages appeared in the documents. Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana, were also included, after corresponding with Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, about Baldoni and the film.

The litigation began in December 2024, when Lively, 38, filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, 41, Wayfarer Studios and several associates, accusing them of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign in retaliation after she raised her concerns.

Baldoni later filed a countersuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, alleging defamation and extortion, although that case was dismissed.

Her legal team is now pushing to have Lively’s lawsuit dismissed ahead of the scheduled May trial.

As part of documents submitted ahead of a summary judgment hearing on Thursday, January 22, Baldoni’s lawyers included text message exchanges between Lively and some of her famous friends.

Parts of the messages show Lively and Swift discussing Baldoni and developments surrounding “It Ends With Us.”

In an exchange referenced by Baldoni’s legal team, Lively reportedly asked Swift to publicly support a revised version of the script she was proposing, “even without having read it.” According to the filing, Swift responded enthusiastically, saying she would support her friend.

Lively’s lawyers, however, believe the posts lack important context. They point to Lively’s deposition, where she explained that she sent Swift the script while Baldoni was still at her apartment and asked her to read it, emphasizing that there was no pressure. Swift was reportedly on her way to visit Lively at the time.

Additional messages included Lively praising Swift, calling her “epicly heroic” and expressing her frustrations about Baldoni, calling him a “clown” and a “doofus.” Swift also allegedly made a derogatory remark about him in the texts, calling him a “bitch.”

Despite the attention the revelations generated, a source says Swift never anticipated this outcome.

“She was just a friend of Blake’s,” the source explained. “It became something bigger than she expected. She never thought the private messages would become public.”

For now, the source adds, Swift is “just trying to stay out of the drama.”

Meanwhile, Lively’s legal team has pushed back against the growing attention paid to her celebrity circle.

Speaking to reporters outside a Manhattan courthouse, her lawyer, Sigrid McCawley, stressed that the lawsuit is not about famous friends but about the treatment Lively says she received on set.

McCawley said Lively was standing up not only for herself, but also for other women who might be afraid to speak out about sexual harassment in the workplace.

The lawyer stressed that this broader principle made the case more complex, explaining that it goes beyond financial compensation.

She added that while Lively tries to prevent friends like Swift from being drawn into the conflict, the main issue remains unchanged: the alleged harassment Lively says she experienced while filming “It Ends With Us.”
