Syrian al-Sharaa meets Putin in Moscow for the second time in four months

The interim Syrian leader arrived in Moscow on January 28 for his second visit in less than four months. Moscow is working to build relations with Ahmed al-Sharaa and ensure a continued military presence in the country, which helps strengthen its influence in the Middle East. The meeting comes after Russia withdrew its forces from Kurdish-held Qamishli airport in northeastern Syria earlier this week.
