Tottenham Hotspur fought back from a two-goal lead to take a point against Manchester City in the Premier League.
Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo fired City in front before half-time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and looked headed for victory before a second-half brace from Dominic Solanke brought Spurs back into the game.
The result will give Spurs fans something to shout about after a dismal Championship campaign so far, but it will do little to ease the growing pressure on boss Thomas Frank.
For Pep Guardiola’s side, who were looking to restore the four-point gap between them and league leaders Arsenal, they remain second but are now six points behind their title rivals.
Start of misery for Spurs
City were ahead after just 11 minutes. After Yves Bissouma was dispossessed on the halfway line, Erling Haaland found Cherki who took a few touches before heading home from just inside the box.
Five minutes later, Haaland wasted a good chance when, surrounded by a few Spurs defenders as he headed towards goal, the Norwegian lifted the ball over Vicario but the ball looped onto the roof of the net.
With Frank once again cutting an increasingly frustrated figure on the touchline, City doubled their advantage just before half-time when an under-touched clearance from Tottenham resulted in the ball falling to Bernardo Silva.
The City captain fed Semenyo and, with time and space to pick his spot, the Ghana international fired an effort into the corner to give Guardiola’s men a commanding lead before the break.
A valiant return
After boos rang out at the half-time whistle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Destiny Udogie almost gave the home fans something to cheer about early in the second half, but her fierce strike was impressively tipped over by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Moments later they had a goal to celebrate as Solanke headed home to halve the deficit with over 35 minutes remaining.
It brought Spurs to life. In the 70th minute they equalized when Conor Gallagher’s cross was cleverly cleared by Solanke.
The England striker was ahead of the ball when the cross arrived, but somehow managed to hook the ball over Donnarumma with the heel of his boot.
Tottenham were now firmly in an ascendant position. Substitute Wilson Odobert stopped the City keeper before the imposing Italian had to be on hand again to keep away Xavi Simons’ shot.
City regained control of the match before the closing stages, but there were no further goals and the points were shared.
