In case you haven’t heard, the steamy and romantic gay hockey series “Heated Rivalry” has been all the rage lately. A second season of the series focused on hockey romance with a naughty twist is already in the works, and even professional hockey players are hoping that audiences who embrace the series will. help change the toxic culture within the National Hockey League.
Of course, that means the show is ready for laughs on “Saturday Night Live,” and thanks to HBO’s Upcoming Reboot of the ‘Harry Potter’ Franchise on television, the late-night sketch comedy series has found the perfect way to combine magic and gay romance.
“Heated Wizardry” follows Harry Potter (played by “Stranger Things” host Finn Wolfhard) as he comes to Hogwarts and meets his new best friend Ron Weasley (starrer Ben Marshall). But Harry and Ron become much more than friends in this version of the story. Don’t worry, Hogwarts is like college this time, so you’re not watching a bunch of underage teenagers get hot and horny. And if you like double entenders and more than implicit sexual relations, references around wands and brooms, this show is made for you.
It’s Harry Potter and Ron Weasley like you’ve never seen them before
The only thing hotter than hockey is quidditch, as the fake TV series’ advertising claims, and that makes sense when you see how attractive Harry Potter looks as he clings to his Nimbus 2000 and speeds away. Professor Snape (James Austin Johnson doing a solid Alan Rickman impersonation) may not be happy with Harry’s flirting, but Professor McConagall (Ashley Padilla) adds, shall we say, mental notes to him.
Perhaps the best moment comes when Hermione wonders what Harry and Ron are doing under an invisibility cloak, especially after Harry asks for the spell that makes something bigger. Yes, Harry Potter is certainly growing up before our eyes, right? After all, he already knows how to use the disarming spell to send Ron’s towel into the Quidditch locker room. Shit !
There’s also a fun surprise near the end, when it’s revealed who plays Hagrid. None other than surprise guest star Jason Momoa makes an appearance as a half-giant, and not only does he already know Harry and Ron’s little secret, he may have a little secret of his own, complete with a cheeky Neville Longbottom reference.
As always, kudos to the “SNL” production design team, who always work wonders when it comes to creating these highly detailed pre-recorded sketches. They manage to perfectly recreate the style of the “Harry Potter” film franchise while adding a bit of a raunchy look to really bring the “Heated Rivalry” parody home. Additionally, Quidditch effects done on short notice don’t look much worse than the visual effects in “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” which is pretty impressive for a job done in just a few days.
