More details on the death of Grady Demond Wilson
TMZ Reports Grady Demond Wilson died Friday morning, January 30, at his home in Palm Springs, California. He was 79 years old. His son, Demond Jr., confirmed that he died of cancer, although he did not specify the type of cancer. Demond Jr. also spoke briefly about his father to TMZ, saying: “I loved him. He was a great man.”
PEOPLE also shared that Grady’s publicist, Mark Goldman, said there are no further details about his death at this time and that his family has requested privacy as they mourn his passing. Goldman also remembered his collaboration with Grady for more than a decade and believes his legacy will live on forever.
“Personally, I had the privilege of working with Demond for 15 years and his loss is deeply felt. He was an incredible man and his impact will never be forgotten. The family appreciates the community’s support and understanding during this difficult time,” Goldman said in a statement.

Grady Demond Wilson began acting in the 1970s with an uncredited role in “Cotton Comes to Harlem.” He then took on small roles in “All in the Family,” “Mission Impossible” and “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In” before getting his big break in 1972 as Lamont Sanford in “Sanford and Son,” which ran until 1977. Other cast members who have died include LaWanda Page (Ester Anderson), Redd Foxx (Fred G. Sanford), Whitman Mayo (Grady Wilson) and Lynn Hamilton. (Donna Harris).
