Rachel McAdams Would Have Played Any Role in ‘Mean Girls’


Rachel McAdams I was so excited to be part of ‘mean girls” that she says she would have happily played any role in the film.

McAdams auditioned for the film while she was still finding her footing in Hollywood, with only a handful of on-screen credits under her belt.

When she read the script by Tina Feyshe says she immediately called her manager to make it clear that she wanted to be involved, no matter the size of the role.

McAdams made his Hollywood debut in 2002 with “The Hot Chick” alongside Rob Schneider and Anna Faris.

Her next film was “Mean Girls”, where she played the main antagonist of the film, Regina George.

In an interview with People Magazine, McAdams said she wanted to be part of the film so much that she would have been happy to take on even the smallest role.

“I loved the script so much,” she said. “I remember closing that script and calling my manager and saying, ‘Please, even if I just played a character that only has one line, I’ll take it.'”

The dream would begin to come true for McAdams when she landed an audition for “Mean Girls.”

The actress had initially read for the lead role of Cady Heron, a role that ultimately went to Lindsay Lohan.

McAdams has since admitted that she never expected to land the role, feeling that her experience at the time paled in comparison to the magnitude of the title character’s role.

“I was just starting out and he was the main character,” McAdams explained. “I just didn’t think I was at this point in my life where I would be chosen for this.”

McAdams’ instincts ultimately proved right, as she was deemed “too old” to play Cady Heron. Instead, she was cast as Regina George and quickly embraced the fun of playing a villain.

Talk with the New York Times In 2018, McAdams explained why she has since played many similar roles.

“I’m always looking for larger-than-life characters, which is probably why I love playing villains,” she said. “They get away with so much.”

The Canadian star also credited her character in “Mean Girls” as the foundation of a long career in Hollywood.

“I have to thank Regina George for giving me some longevity,” McAdams said. “I will be forever grateful to Tina Fey and [director] Mark Waters.”

McAdams has won numerous honors throughout his career, one of the most recent being a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

McAdams officially received this honor during a ceremony on January 20, 2026.

Speaking at the star’s unveiling, “The Notebook” actress expressed her gratitude for being able to maintain a steady job in the industry over the years.

“I didn’t really need to be a star,” McAdams said. Radio-Canada Canada. “What I needed was to be a working actor. And for over 25 years, I’ve been very lucky to do that.”
