Juventus might seek to rekindle their interest in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta after his failed transfer to AC Milan.
It was reported that the France international had a medical issue, prompting Milan to pull out of the proposed £26m deal.
It is a blow for the player, who was looking forward to the move from Selhurst Park to San Siro, as well as for both clubs. Milan now have little time to find another striker while Palace could end up keeping Mateta even though he has expressed his desire to leave.
There could also be a knock-on effect with Palace’s bid to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves now up for grabs. Palace have had a £48 million bid for Strand Larsen accepted by club Molineux, who were hoping to replace the Norwegian with Adam Armstrong from Southampton.
Mateta was also wanted by Juventus before Milan took the lead in the race to sign the 28-year-old, who has scored 56 goals in 186 appearances for Palace.
He was left out of the squad for yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest after Eagles boss Oliver Glasner claimed he was not in the “right place” mentally to play. The stalemate left Palace in 15th place in the Premier League table, nine points above the drop zone.
