Lionsgate sells Lionsgate Play in India and Southeast Asia to founder Rohit Jain

Lionsgate has completed the sale of its streaming service, Lionsgate Play, in India and Southeast Asia to Rohit Jain, founder of the platform and former president of Lionsgate Play Asia. All other Lionsgate film and television businesses in the region will remain within the studio.

Jain will now fully manage Lionsgate Play under the new ownership, leaving his previous position at Lionsgate. The move places Lionsgate Play under the founder’s leadership, leveraging Jain’s regional expertise and focusing on the digital entertainment sector in Asia.

Lionsgate will continue to license the Lionsgate Play brand to the platform in a multi-year agreement. The service will also retain access to Lionsgate’s film and television library, supporting its growth and position in South and Southeast Asia.

Brian Goldsmith, COO of Lionsgate, said: “We thank Rohit for his exceptional leadership in building and growing Lionsgate’s business in India over the past eight years. Under his leadership, the Lionsgate brand has gained greater resonance with audiences in South Asia and Southeast Asia, and Lionsgate Play has become a distinctive premium streaming platform. Rohit is an entrepreneur with a deep understanding of the Asian landscape and has the expertise to lead Lionsgate Play into a exciting new phase.

Jain expressed his gratitude to Lionsgate’s management, saying, “I am deeply grateful to Jon Feltheimer and Brian Goldsmith for the trust and freedom to grow Lionsgate’s business in India and transform Lionsgate Play into a premium streaming platform across Asia. Lionsgate Play has established itself as a leading destination for Hollywood content in India and is now positioned to grow well beyond that.”
