Jelly Roll says he’s ‘Dumb Redneck’ as others call out ICE at 2026 Grammys


While artists, including Bad bunny And Billie Eilish made bold statements about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during the Grammys 2026, Jelly roll keeps quiet – for now.

Jelly Roll (real name Jason DeFord) refused to give his opinion on the tense climate in the United States after winning three awards at the music awards ceremony on Sunday February 1, including Best Contemporary Country Album for his file Beautifully broken.

Reporters asked the 41-year-old singer backstage in the press room if he wanted to comment on “what’s happening in the country right now,” to which he replied: “Not really.”

“So, it’s the truth, and I’m glad someone asked me because I like to talk about this stuff and people care to hear my opinion, but so, I can tell you that people shouldn’t care to hear my opinion,” Jelly Roll told reporters.

He continued: “You know, I’m a stupid redneck. I didn’t watch enough. I didn’t have a phone for 18 months.”

Jelly Roll went on to admit, “I’m so disconnected from what’s going on.”

“I grew up in a house of insane chaos. I didn’t even know politics was real until I was in my 20s, in prison,” the “Son of a Sinner” singer said. “That’s how disconnected I am [you are] when you grew up in a home of drug addicts. Do you think we’ve had joint calls on what’s happening in rural politics? Like, we’re just trying to find a way to survive, man, you know?

Jelly Roll, however, said he “has a lot to say” and will share his views in the coming week.
