Inter extended their lead at the top of Serie A to eight points with a 2-0 victory over struggling Cremonese on Sunday.
Lautaro Martinez and Piotr Zielinski both found the net in the first 31 minutes to give Cristian Chivu’s men all three points at the Stadio Giovanni Zini.
However, the match was spoiled when the action had to be stopped after Cremonese goalkeeper Emil Audero was hit by a firecracker from the crowd.
Audero was able to continue for the rest of the match, despite suffering a cut on his right leg.
The result boosts Inter’s title hopes, but arch-rivals AC Milan could reduce the gap to five points with victory over Bologna on Tuesday.
Elsewhere in Italy, sixth place fell to seventh as Como hosted Atalanta at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia Djarum.
The visitors had to play more than 80 minutes with 10 men after Honest Ahanor was sent off after just eight minutes.
However, they managed to keep Cesc Fabregas’ men at bay and share the points after a goalless draw.
Juventus moved to within a point of third-placed Napoli after a convincing 4-1 win over Parma.
Gleison Bremer scored twice, while Weston McKennie and Jonathan David added sparkle to the result.
Parma had already equalized via an own goal from Andrea Cambiaso.
The Old Lady’s rivals Torino narrowly defeated Lecce thanks to a goal from Scotland international Che Adams.
League 1
With PSG returns to the top of the rankingsLyon moved back to level on points with third-placed Marseille after a 1-0 win over Lille in Ligue 1.
Noah Nartey scored the only goal of the match eight minutes before half-time as Paulo Fonseca’s side extended their impressive winning run to 10 matches in all competitions.
At the other end of the ranking, Metz, last club, narrowly lost to Angers.
Metz got off to the worst possible start when Jean-Philipe Gbamin received a straight red card with just nine minutes remaining on the clock.
Angers took advantage of the numerical advantage and took the lead thanks to Louis Mouton midway through the first half before finishing the match to take the three points.
It was a match of two halves at the Allianz Riviera where Brest and Nice fought a four-goal thriller.
Brest scored a double in the first quarter of an hour thanks to a penalty from Romain Del Castillo and Kamory Doumbia.
However, the hosts fought back after the break to level things up through Ali Abdi and Elye Wahi.
The other match saw Auxerre and Toulouse end up with a goalless draw.
League
In La Liga, Real Madrid left late to maintain the one-point gap between them and leaders Barcelona, while Real Betis took advantage of Espanyol’s slip-up on Saturday with victory over Valencia.
After Luis Rioja put Valencia ahead, goals from Ezequiel Avila and former West Ham player Pablo Fornals completed the comeback to propel Manuel Pellegrini’s side to fifth place in the table.
Goncalo Guedes opened the scoring for Real Sociedad during his visit to Athletic Club.
And that goal made the difference until the 88th minute, when Inigo Galarreta equalized the score just five minutes after Sociedad’s Brais Mendez was sent off.
The match ended 1-1 – a result that keeps Sociedad in eighth place and places Athletic in 11th.
The other match in the Spanish top flight saw Getafe and Celta Vigo draw 0-0.
Bundesliga
In the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund consolidated their second place in the standings with a 3-2 victory over Heidenheim.
Dortmund hit back after a double from Julian Niehues turned the game around following Waldemar Anton’s opener.
Two goals in two minutes in the second half from Serhou Guirassy – including one from the penalty spot – saw the hosts take all three points to move three points ahead of third-placed Hoffenheim and six points behind leaders Bayern.
In the other match, Stuttgart narrowly beat Freiburg thanks to a late goal from Ermedin Demirovic.
