Hilary Duff appeared to get emotional as she sang a new track that fans believe is about her older sister, Haylie Duff.
Hilary, 38, returned to the stage for her first headlining performance in 18 years on Monday, January 19, at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London. The old Lizzie McGuire the star fired her Small parts, big nerves tour, treating fans to songs old and new.
The actress and singer performed several new songs from her upcoming album Luck…or somethingwhat marks it first studio LP in over a decade and is scheduled to be released on February 20.
A piece titled “We don’t talk” which seems to sample SaidThe 2011 hit, “Somebody That I Used to Know,” has already got the internet talking.
In a moving tone, Hilary sings, “I don’t know when it happened / I’m not even sure what it was about,” hinting at a fractured relationship.
She continues: “Because we come from the same house, the same blood.”

“People ask me how you are / I mean amazing, but the truth is I don’t know / What I always end up saying is how…” Hilary sings before launching into the chorus.
In the chorus, Hilary repeats the lines: “We don’t talk, we don’t talk about it / We don’t talk about anything anymore.”
During the second verse, Hilary hints at a rivalry of sorts, narrating what the song is about: “And if it’s ’cause you’re jealous / God knows I’d sell it all, then you’ll part with the better half of it.”
Later, Hilary sings: “Let’s say it / I’ll listen to you, you’ll listen to me on the couch / Let’s go back to how we were when we were kids / Let’s break it down / So sick of being so sad / How we don’t talk and you won’t talk about it.”

Hilary didn’t share details about what the song was about with the public on Monday night, but as clips of her show began circulating on social media, fans wondered if it was about Haylie, who Hilary hasn’t been publicly photographed with since 2019.
“WOWW… Hilary Duff just sang We don’t talk and it’s 100% on Hailey. 👀 but not mean at all. Basically telling her to reach out,” one person wrote on X.
Another X user shared: “With a sample of ‘Somebody That I Used To Know,’ Hilary Duff performed ‘We Don’t Talk,’ a new song from her upcoming album about her sister Haylie. You can tell she’s emotional by the end of the song.”
In November 2025, Hilary opened up about the “family drama” in an interview with rolling stone discussing his musical comeback.
“I have this crazy connection with the fans that I’ve known since I was 9 or 10, and I just want to reconnect with them,” she said. “We went through a lot of similar things — whether it was complicated relationships, anxiety, raising kids, divorces, trying to find ourselves as adults, family drama… Eventually, I felt safe and comfortable enough in my own family to come out and open that part of myself again.”
During Monday’s concert, Duff also serenaded fans with her hit songs “Wake Up” and “So Yesterday,” as well as her first live performance of “What dreams are made of” Since The Lizzie McGuire Movie.
