Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Friday asked state investigators to get involved in the investigation into the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, calling the Trump administration’s description of the events “deeply concerning.”
Frey spoke after the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Thursday that he withdraw from the investigation after being told by the FBI that it would not have access to documents required for a “thorough and independent” review. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem later said, “They have not been excluded, they have no jurisdiction in this investigation.” »
“In Minneapolis, when tragedy strikes, there is one word that sums up what is most important. And that word is integrity. This is not the time to bend the rules. This is the time to follow the law. This is not the time to hide from the facts. This is the time to accept them, making sure that we push for transparency every step of the way,” Frey said Friday.
“The fact that Pam Bondi’s Justice Department and the presidential administration have already reached a conclusion on these facts is deeply concerning. The fact that, from the outset, they referred to the victim as a ‘domestic terrorist’. They viewed the actions of the agent involved as a form of defensive posturing. We know that they have already determined much of the investigation, and even if they have not, it appears that conclusions were reached from the beginning,” he said. continued.

“Our demand is to accept the truth. Our demand is to include the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in this process, because we in Minneapolis want a fair investigation. Is it deeply concerning that this administration, right off the bat, is drawing the conclusion that it might ultimately arrive at? Of course it is,” Frey added. “And if you have nothing to hide, then don’t hide. Include local experts in the process. We have nothing to hide here. All we want in Minneapolis is justice and the truth.”
Fox News Digital contacted the Ministry of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security for comment.
Frey said Friday: “There is important precedent here.”

“There have been instances in the past where there has been some form of shooting or killing of officers committed by federal agents or U.S. marshals or beyond, under the control of local and state entities. By the way, we’re not even talking here just about total control,” the Democratic mayor said. “We’re talking about being at the table. We’re talking about an investigation that includes the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.”
Frey also insisted Friday that his city is “safe” and not a “post-apocalyptic hellscape.”
“I’ve heard countless people talk about Minneapolis – many of whom have never been there – it’s some form of post-apocalyptic hellscape. It’s a dangerous place. Well, let me give you a statistic. 50% of the shootings that have happened so far in Minneapolis this year have been caused by ICE,” Frey told reporters, days after the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good.

“In other words, we’ve only had two shootings. One of them was ICE. We’re a safe city,” Frey added. “ICE makes it less difficult. We are a city of unity. But ICE is trying to divide us and tear us apart.”
