Everton have now reportedly joined the race to sign a midfield star, who could be on the move during the January transfer window.
Everton appeal against ‘ridiculous’ Keane red card
It has been a strange season for Michael Keane, who is in the final six months of his Everton contract. The defender has stepped up unexpectedly at times, but his red card against Wolverhampton Wanderers was a reminder of how inconsistent he can be for the Toffees.
As Tolu Arokodare went up for a header, it was the Everton defender who pulled him down by the hair in a merciless incident that many believe left the referee with no choice but to issue a red card.
David Moyes was not, however, one of these people. He branded the decision “ridiculous” and Everton have now appealed the expulsion.
Speaking to reporters after the midweek match, Moyes said: “I’ve been a central defender and I can’t jump to pass a big centre-forward and think: ‘By the way, I’m going to pass him and at the same time I’m going to pull his hair.’
“I don’t know anyone on the planet who is good enough to think that way when they jump. I thought it was a ridiculous decision on the part of the referee, but more on the part of VAR. I thought the ridiculous part came from VAR.”
The Toffees’ luck didn’t improve after Keane’s red card either, with Jack Grealish soon joining his team-mate in the dressing room after his own dismissal. With nine men, Everton were forced to settle for a point.
It was another frustrating night at Hill Dickinson Stadium and one that left many wondering whether the Toffees should consider the January transfer window.
Everton join race to sign Gabriel Sara
According to information in Türkiye, relayed by Sport Witness, Everton have joined the race to sign Gabriel Sara of Galatasaray. The midfielder could lose his place to Manuel Ugarte if Galatasaray completes his transfer and could well be on the move himself this month as a result.
A place in the Premier League it probably took a while. The last time Sara played in English football was with Norwich City in the Championship, where he thrived. Now, less than two years later and with Champions League experience under his belt, he could finally join the elite.
It was during her time at Carrow Road that Sara received praise from the former Norwich boss. David Wagnerwho said in 2024: “He works hard. He can easily run 12 to 13 kilometers and has excellent vision. He is an exceptional player and a top professional.”
Galatasaray are reportedly ready to weigh offers worth more than €20m (£17m) this month, while Sara’s salary demands could be similar to Sara’s. £58,000 per week which he is currently winning in Türkiye.
