
Catawba Nation Chief Brian Harris took social networks to share the latest vision of the federally recognized tribe in South Carolina.
Harris begins by sharing the new introductions and improvements before noting that, unlike South Carolina, “believe it or not, we have never applied for state recognition in North Carolina.”
He went on to say that they had already turned over all the documents and had done their due diligence, including giving the state everything they needed. This comes with the opening of the tribe’s first satellite government office in North Carolina.
The office at this new location aims to facilitate the citizens of the tribe in the state. Later in the video, where Brian Harris sits down to provide insight into upcoming events, he says the tribe will submit a number of bills this year.
That includes a bill for North Carolina, as well as another for South Carolina that Harris said would propose “to give us, as the federal government promised us at the time, a head start on any other casino coming into the state of South Carolina.” He went on to say that if they didn’t, the tribe would file federal charges.
Also in the speech, Harris explained how a new 80,000 square foot introductory casino would open in February or March.
It was June of last year when a the update has been provided on the billion-dollar Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort in Kings Mountain, which has just completed major construction.

At the time they said that introductory casino It was scheduled to open in spring 2026 and they described the project as booming. However, the main casino complex is expected to open in 2027, with an area of approximately 2 million square feet.
The casino will feature 4,300 slot machines, 100 table games, 11 restaurants, a players’ lounge, 11 bars, a 2,700-space parking garage built beneath the casino complex and 800 surface parking spaces.
