Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said building infrastructure to support the artificial intelligence (AI) The technology boom is increasing the wages of construction workers involved in these projects.
THE Co-founder of Nvidia spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and was interviewed by Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock and interim co-chair of the WEF, about how the rise of AI will change the nature of work.
“First of all, this is the largest infrastructure construction in human history. It will create a lot of jobs,” Huang said. “It’s wonderful that the jobs are related to crafts – we’re going to have plumbers, electricians, construction and metal workers, network technicians and people who install and fit out the equipment.”
“We’re seeing a pretty big boom in this area. Salaries have almost doubled, and so we’re talking about six-figure salaries for people who are building chip factories, computer factories or AI factories,” Huang said.

“We have a big shortage in this area, and I’m really pleased to see so many people in so many countries recognizing this important area,” he added. “Everyone should be able to make a good living. You don’t need a PhD in computer science to do that.”
During his discussion with Fink, the Nvidia CEO detailed the different levels of AI infrastructure and how they rely on each other.

“When you think about AI, you think about AI models, but it’s really important to understand that on an industrial level, AI is actually essentially a five-layer cake. At the bottom is energy. AI, because it’s processed in real time and it generates intelligence in real time, it needs energy to do it,” he said.

Huang said the layers above energy are chips and then cloud services. Above that are the AI models, as well as the top layer in its analogy – the application layer in which AI is used for productive purposes to generate data. economic benefits.

“What’s important, though, because this computing platform requires all the layers underneath, is that it has started – and everyone is seeing it right now – it has started the greatest infrastructure build in human history,” Huang said.
He added that the rise of AI will require “billions of dollars of the infrastructure that needs to be built” and said the investment will be “reasonable because all of these contexts need to be addressed so that the models can generate the intelligence needed to power the applications that sit on top.”
