Black Ski Weekend in Flagstaff, Arizona, became the center of conversation after a TikTok series blames black travel group to apparently prepare the participants for a chaotic and uncomfortable escapade. Some travelers say the excursions the group advertised weren’t what they ultimately got.
But are these allegations true? And what really happened?
The shadow room Justin Carter launches into it on ‘TSR investigates.’
Learn more about the Black Ski Weekend
According to Carter, Zakiya’s three-part TikTok series about what allegedly happened during Black Ski Weekend in Arizona has garnered more than three million views to date. According to Zakiya, one ad claimed that if she paid $1,500, she and her husband would receive round-trip transportation to the weekend event, as well as excursions and accommodations in a private suite.
“A suite is very different from a hotel room. A suite generally has a living space and then separate living areas, and it was advertised for a group of four people,” Zakiya told TikTok viewers. “We get there, they give us the rooms [and] It’s a motel setting.
According to Carter, the space was a double queen bedroom, which Zakiya and her husband had to share with another couple. Additionally, a check on the website apparently showed that the two queen beds, not the suites, were included in the package.
Next on Zakiya’s list of complaints was about the on-site spa, which she said had been falsely advertised. Additionally, she alleged that the group’s morning yoga session took place in the hotel lobby.
“They do a downward dog where people had breakfast,” she alleged.
Was it a scam?
Zakiya alleged the group “falsely advertised everything from a suite to a Nordic spa.” However, Emmanuel Jones, the lead organizer of Black Ski Weekend, told Carter that Zakiya’s claims were “fabricated.” Additionally, he shared that he thought his claims may have been intended to “harm” his brand.
