For a gift, it’s a date
My husband and I are planning our fourth or fifth year of our favorite Valentine’s Day date: building Lego sets together. We’ve been doing this for years, and then we can enjoy the fruits (well, flowers) of our labor at home forever. These sets serve as both a gift and an activity. Building the dried flower centerpiece together was probably my all-time favorite because you can each work on one half simultaneously, then click together at the end, and then each build a different colored bonsai.
For a daytime adventure
Building on the idea of date activities that involve gift giving, this multi-person paddleboard is a fun way to spend time outdoors while staying together the whole time. It’s massive, almost raft-like, so it can hold the weight of up to three adults, but once we figured out its size it wasn’t difficult to maneuver. Sometimes we both rowed together, sometimes I let my husband do all the work. It’s been a great day adventure together, and I can’t wait for my husband and I to return to our local port again for the next warm day. It’s big enough for us to bring our son, although it’s much more peaceful as a date activity. It is inflatable and I would recommend getting an electric filler because otherwise it would require a lot of manual pumping.
For flowers on demand
The classic must-have for Valentine’s Day is, of course, flowers. Boutayna Chokrane, WIRED critic tested several flower delivery services to find the best one to send home, and her favorite is the Ode to the Rose, more precisely Edith’s arrangements. The company was started by two former French bankers, and the design choices of the arrangements seem distinctly chic, as only French romance can. The Edith bouquet is made entirely from double Columbus tulips from Holland and comes hand-tied in a travel vase and fun pink box. Flowers ship nationwide and are shipped same day to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, Miami and Washington, DC.
For a jewelry upgrade
Maybe you’ve already exchanged rings, or maybe you’re looking for your first set without committing. Anyway, the most popular fitness tracker these days is a smart ringAnd Oura is the master of space. The latest model is the Ring 4and it is available in metallic and ceramic finishes. Many of my friends love theirs. I wish I had one, but they make no sense for my husband and I since we are a duo of flyers and climbers. Live my dreams for me and get this for your Valentine (and yourself)!
For your favorite photographer
If your romantic partner likes to take photos, a digital photo frame is the perfect gift (and you’ll benefit from it too, as will probably the number one fan of their photography!). I’m the photographer in our house and our Aura frame is my husband’s favorite gadget because it features the photos I’ve taken of our son and our life together over the years. Our wedding photos are there too, along with the occasional good photo he took of me. It’s a monthly ritual for me to go through my camera roll and add my latest favorites. Aura is my favorite because the range of frames is beautiful and the storage is unlimited with no fees or subscriptions.
For the cozy couple
One of my favorite souvenirs that I have at home is a set of matching bathrobes that my husband and I bought on our honeymoon. Our entirely cotton bathrobes come from Ten thousand waves Japanese spa in New Mexico (the final destination of a southwest US road trip) and are perfect for going to the pool or after a shower on a hot day. But I always love a good fluffy bathrobe in the colder season, especially since it can double as a towel. Treat your partner to one of these cozy robes to give them something luxurious to use after their next shower or quick rinse. Cozy Earth’s bathrobe is incredibly soft thanks to its cotton and bamboo viscose blend, while this flannel bathrobe from LLBean is one of our favorites for anyone working from home.
For your inner theater children
If your partner likes to sing along Wicked soundtrack and regularly suggests karaoke as a group activity, then give them the gift of doing karaoke anywhere with these gadgets. The Bonaok karaoke microphone is one of our favorite karaoke microphonesallowing you to sing anywhere without carrying bulky equipment. The Ikarao Shell S2 is a portable device with dual mics, a built-in display and support for streaming services, so you can sing along to your favorite songs on Spotify.
For the fitness couple
After the Christmas season, I saw a video on my For You page that showed how each mom clearly received a matching workout outfit for Christmas and wore it the day after Christmas. As a mom myself, all I thought about was how much I love another matching training set. I’m serious. They’re perfect for workouts, quick runs, and going to daycare or school. My latest favorite set comes from Bombshell Sportswear. The whole thing is both super soft and fits securely without any annoying pressure. This is the one that gets the most compliments of all my sets. I would have liked to measure with the bolero, but as an acrobat my back muscles are a bit larger than a regular person’s.
Have a partner who doesn’t need a matching set? Try fantasy running shoes instead, which are even more useful for workouts and daily life. WIRED reviewer Adrienne So says these RAD shoes are fantastic for a range of uses, as they’re designed for gym, HIIT, CrossFit, and hybrid workouts and are flexible enough for treadmill running. They look fantastic too.
For beloved bookworms
A To light up is always a great gift for anyone who reads in any format. Funny enough, my siblings and I are about to buy one for my dad for his birthday (two weeks before Valentine’s Day), and I recommended my favorite choice, the Kindle Paperwhitebecause the standard Kindle is a little too small for his 6-foot-4 frame to bend over, and he doesn’t read enough picture books to make the Colorsoft the right jump for him. If they already have a Kindle, I’m still in love with my pen pal PopSockets Kindle Case and Gripand they have since launched a new Bookish collection with beautiful designs.
