Steven Spielberg achieves EGOT status with another Grammy win



Say Hello to the Newly Inducted, Grammy-Winning EGOT Man Steven Spielberg.

At Sunday’s Grammy Awards, the filmmaker won an award for documentary film of 2024, Music by John Williams. It won “Best Musical Film” at the non-televised ceremony and marks its first win and nomination at the music-focused event. Spielberg, along with others like George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedyboth produced the document and appear in it, speaking about their relationship with Williams.

In a statement, Spielberg thanked Grammy voters, calling it “obviously deeply meaningful because it validates what I have known for more than 50 years: John Williams’ influence on culture and music is immeasurable and his artistry and legacy are second to none.” For those watching at home, Spielberg is the 21st recipient of the EGOT, joined by Viola Davis and Elton John. He is also the oldest EGOT winner at 79 years old and the third director after John Gielgud in 1991 and Mike Nichols in 1991.

The first collaboration with Steven Spielberg and John Williams dates back to 1974. Sugarland Express after specifically asking Williams to work on the film. A year later, they reunited for the first time Jaws, followed by Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, and the Indiana Jones series. Several films they worked on together, such as AND And Schindler’s List, were nominated for and subsequently won Best Original Score at the Academy Awards. Their partnership is so strong that Williams announced he probably retired of film composition after Indiana Jones 5, only at to come back to compose the music for Spielberg’s ci-fiction film Disclosure day, which hits theaters in June.
