“William is building a future and he doesn’t need the Harry drama anymore,” Jobson said. “You can’t bridge that gap when one brother moves forward and the other doesn’t let go of the past and the bitterness. Supporting Harry presents Charles with a delicate challenge, as he risks being seen as favoring one son over the other.

“Invictus has become a must” Royal BBC explained correspondent Jennie Bond. “This is Harry’s great cause and his greatest achievement, and any father would want to support his son as the games come to the UK. But it’s not easy for the King – unfortunately for him, his family affairs never are.”

Bond added that Charles could face a classic dilemma: choosing between his warring sons.

“We can only imagine how William might feel if Charles publicly came out in support of the games and Harry,” she said.

“William bit his lip, overcame the accusations and got to work, despite the brutal cancer diagnoses for Catherine and Charles. Seeing his father stand up on a very public platform and salute Harry’s achievement would be difficult. But that is the dilemma the king could face.”
