DoorDash has internet in trouble with delivery warning
As mentioned, National Weather Service forecasts promised widespread heavy snow and a catastrophic ice band stretching from eastern Texas to North Carolina. That means services will be disrupted, from electricity to DoorDash deliveries. The company took action via social media to remind its customers to stay safe and choose their snowy friends wisely. And, as expected, the comments started pouring in with reactions to the not-so-subtle message about life…nine months from now.
“Ladies: If Saturday comes and you’re stuck with THIS man, there’s nothing we can offer you to help. Please be discerning,” DoorDash wrote on X Friday.
The company continued the jokes with responses, from “He will definitely try to eat the snacks, get him out of there!!” And “Because why would a man be here??”
Social media users don’t take anything seriously

How serious is this winter storm anyway?
DoorDash and social media users may be cutting while waiting for the snow to fall, but authorities are taking the warnings seriously. Some areas are already affected, and forget about traveling! More than 12,000 flights were canceled Saturday and Sunday across the United States, according to flight tracking site FlightAware. Disruptions were also mounting at airports from Dallas to Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Churches have moved Sunday services online. Mardi Gras parades in Louisiana have been canceled or postponed. School principals in Philadelphia and Houston announced school closures for Monday. Some universities in the South canceled classes on Monday.
Governors in more than a dozen states have sounded the alarm about the looming winter storm. Many have declared a state of emergency or urged people to stay home. Forecasters estimate that damage, particularly in areas pounded by ice, could be comparable to that of a hurricane. As of midday Saturday, a quarter-inch of ice was reported in parts of southeast Oklahoma, east Texas and parts of Louisiana.
“What makes this storm really unique is that right after this storm it’s going to be very cold,” said Allison Santorelli, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “The snow and ice will melt very, very slowly and will not disappear anytime soon, which will hamper any recovery efforts.”
About 120,000 power outages were reported in the winter storm’s path Saturday afternoon, including about 53,000 in Texas and 45,000 in Louisiana, according to poweroutage.us.
This winter storm will be extremely cold, experts say
After sweeping south, the winter storm will likely move northeast. It will dump about 1 to 2 feet of snow from Washington to New York and Boston, the weather service predicted. Georgia officials advised residents in northern areas of the state to get off the roads before sunset Saturday and prepare to stay put for at least 48 hours.
Will Lanxton, the state’s chief meteorologist, said Georgia could get “Perhaps the biggest ice storm we’ve expected in over a decade” followed by unusually cold temperatures.
“Ice is a whole different game than snow,” Lanxton said. “With ice, you can’t do anything. You can’t drive on it. It’s much more likely to bring down power lines and trees.”
The Midwest experienced wind chills as low as -40°F. This means frostbite could occur within 10 minutes. The temperature of -36°F in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, on Saturday morning was the coldest in nearly 30 years.
“I think there are two parts of this storm that make it unique. One is just a wide expanse of spatial coverage of this event… You have 2,000 miles of country that are being hit by the storm with snow, sleet and freezing rain,” said Josh Weiss, a meteorologist at NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center. “The other really impressive part of this storm is what’s going to happen right after. We’re looking at extreme cold, record cold.”
