Apple TV released some great shows in 2025and the streaming service is going off the rails (in a good way) to kick off the new year. Season 2 of the Idris Elba-starring action series “Hijack” is finally out, and this one sees his character Sam Nelson step out to save the day on a German subway train. (So this could really go off the rails.)
If you’re not familiar with “Hijack”, let me break it down quickly. The first season follows Elba’s protagonist – a trade negotiator by day – as he finds himself on a flight that is hijacked by bad people. Nelson is neither a soldier, nor a cop, nor an assassin, but he takes it upon himself to overthrow the hijackers and ensure the plane lands safely. Sam is a regular hero, but Elba brings the right amount of turbulence, finding the perfect balance between being approachable and larger than life. In fact, some of The best performances of the Elbe are into action films and thrillers, so you know a series with that premise will suit his sensibilities.
Season 1 of “Highjack” is very demanding, with the entire story taking place during a seven-hour flight. The twists and turns are so brilliant and absurd that it’s hard to resist binging on the next episode – and then, before you know it, the entire season is over, leaving you with this feeling of wanting more. Unfortunately, season 2 is not available yet as it has just started and the episodes are released weekly. However, this is shaping up to be a one-way ticket to Awesomeville.
All Aboard Hijack Season 2
Apple TV is becoming a premier destination for action-packed thrills. With “Diversion” and essential series like “The Last Frontier”, the streamer has delivered two recent shows that are unabashedly pulpy and undeniably exhilarating. What’s more, “Hijack” Season 2 wears its pulpiness on its sleeve like a badge of honor, even as it treats the subject matter with enough tension and seriousness for viewers to suspend their disbelief.
After successfully stopping a plane hijacking last time out, Sam Nelson is determined to track down the villain who masterminded the Season 2 incident. Unfortunately, there’s a small problem that interferes with his mission: being stuck on a locomotive loaded with explosives. Can our hero save the day? Only time will tell.
“Hijack” is highly recommended for viewers who like “Die Hard” and “Speed”. There’s a lot of action, sure, but it revolves around a character who finds himself in situations that force him to think. Go check it out and make sure Season 2 is a success, because there must be a third installment on automobiles since planes and trains have already been checked off the list.
New episodes of “Hijack” air Wednesdays on Apple TV.
