Brian Austin Green explained how to keep your past romance with Martine alum We have Arnold a secret made him feel insecure.
“She was very clear from day one: ‘No one can know,'” Green, 52, said during a Wednesday, Jan. 14, episode of the TV series. Deon ColeIt is “It’s funny knowing you.” podcast. “I can’t tell people, I can’t talk about it.”
Green explained that he and Arnold, 56, connected when they were in their 20s. In addition to playing in Beverly Hills, 90210Green was interested in hip-hop music which he and Arnold bonded over. Arnold, who played in Martine at the time, came to Green to collaborate, as she was a singer while Green produced music.
According to Green, the couple ended up “having fun” and forming a romantic bond. While Green had genuine feelings for Arnold, he began to feel “unsure” about himself as he kept their romance quiet.
“I have someone I’m attracted to who says, ‘You can’t tell anyone,'” he mused. “I think for me it really triggered something like, ‘Oh, OK. I’m not good enough for all this. You don’t even want your friends to know you’re hanging out with me.'”
However, once Arnold showed up and wanted to tell people about their relationship, the actor had mixed emotions.
“At one point it kind of flipped and all of a sudden she was cool with it. But I think somewhere in my mind I had this subconscious shift of like, ‘Oh, I’m not, it’s not a real relationship. It’s just a thing that we do,'” he recalls. “Now maybe his outlook on things has changed a little bit, but it didn’t even start in a healthy way.”
Although Green and Arnold ultimately didn’t work out, he shared that he still has a lot of “love” for her and that they remain friends all these years later.
“She’s my daughter. I will always support her. She has always supported me,” he said, adding that he didn’t want anyone to think he was speaking “badly” about her.
Before Green sat down with Cole, Arnold was a guest on the show “It’s funny knowing you.” podcast last month. During her sit-down, she revealed that she and Green had dated in the past and what led to their breakup.
“I told him. I said, ‘The reason we’ve come to the end of our journey is because I see you dating all these black women. Now you’re dating me, and you’re not going to end up with a black woman. You’re going to share your wealth and your heritage with someone white. And so I’m getting off this train.’ I told you I’m really good at endings,” she said, adding that Green is “a really nice guy.”
Arnold shared that she “knew it wasn’t going anywhere” but had “a great experience” with Green. Their relationship also claimed that she was primarily attracted to black men.
“I’m just attracted to black men, it’s my natural,” she admitted. “It depends on everything, just pheromones and smell and everything.”
Green, for his part, admitted Wednesday that he dated black women during that time in his life because he was involved in the hip-hop music scene.
“I went to hip-hop clubs. I went to every place that hip-hop existed. So when you date someone, you usually date the people around you,” he explained. “I was dating mostly black women at the time because it felt like we had common interests. We were doing things together.”
Following her relationship with Martin, Green continued to date him Vanessa Marcil before getting married Megan Fox in 2004. After divorcing Fox in 2020, Green moved on with his current partner Sharna Burgess.
Arnold, for her part, was previously married to Lamon Brewer from 1991 to 1995 and DaRico Hines from 2012 to 2016.
