Michael B. Jordan Reveals His Mom’s Reaction to Nikki Glaser’s NSFW Joke

The 38-year-old actor stopped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Monday, January 12, where he recapped his appearance at the Golden Globe Awards the night before and second host Nikki Glaser took a scorching jab at him during her opening monologue. “I can’t believe it, we have two Michael B. Jordans,” Glaser said, referring to his roles in “Sinners.” “When I saw that, I was like Nikki B. Jerkin’ because it was awesome.”

The camera immediately cut to Jordan’s mother, Donna, sitting in the crowd next to the actor, and her reaction was instantly memorable. She rolled her eyes and took a sip of her drink as the room laughed, a deadpan response that quickly became one of the most replayed moments of the evening.

Glaser acknowledged that she may have crossed a line when she realized Donna was in the crowd, quickly following up her joke with: “I’m so sorry. That should have been a DM.”

Jordan told Kimmel that even though he had a great time at the Globes, his mother ended up being the real star of the evening. “I had fun, but my mom stole the show,” he said with a laugh, adding that Donna’s friends were blowing up his phone with memes and clips of the moment.

When Kimmel asked if it made his mother uncomfortable to see women openly pining for him, Jordan didn’t hesitate, especially since he’s been dealing with this public perception for years, including being named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2020. “I think she’s used to it now,” Jordan explained. “So she just does a little eye roll and keeps pushing. She doesn’t really respond too much.”

And despite the embarrassment of being the butt of a spicy joke with his mother in the audience, Jordan made it clear he wouldn’t trade the experience. When asked about the pros and cons of taking Donna as a date to award shows, he said the night was all positive, including an afterparty where she had a great time.

“We went to an afterparty, had a little fun, she was dancing and stuff. Mom had a great time,” he said, adding, “I don’t really think it’s a downside to taking mom to an event, just a plus.”

Jordan’s night at the Globes was still a win overall. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture for “Sinners,” which earned seven nominations and won Best Original Score and Best Cinematography and Box Office Achievement awards.

“I just want to thank the audience for coming. It means the world. This movie was made by hundreds of people,” Ryan Coogler shared during Box Office Achievement’s acceptance speech. “When we work in film, we don’t always wear tuxedos and look glamorous. It’s usually a chore. We wore performance fishing gear…we were in the swamps.”
