The title of this month’s update is inappropriate because there aren’t three new features Netflix shows with at least 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes in January.
Instead, only one show surpassed that mark this month.
Waiting for, Watch with us will highlight the single Netflix show that reached 90% and the two that came closest.
“Southern countries” (2009 – 2013)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 90 percent
If you’re looking for a police procedural drama to watch, Netflix has a great one available for you. Southern countries has part of the grain of The Shieldminus the rampant corruption and cop-on-cop killings. This series primarily focuses on Officer Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) as he navigates the mean streets of Los Angeles while juggling his personal problems. Ben’s training agent, John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz), also receives a lot of attention as a man who hid his secrets for fear that they might affect his reputation with other cops.
This series takes a character-driven approach to storytelling and boasts a fantastic supporting cast, including Regina King, Shawn Hatosy, Kevin Alexandro, Michael McGrady And Tom Everett Scott. Southern countries hasn’t been on the air for over a decade, but we’d be shocked if it doesn’t find a new generation of viewers. This is the kind of series perfect for binge-watchers.
Southern countries will be broadcast on Netflix on January 16.
“Land of Sin” (2026)
Rotten Tomatoes score: 86 percent
There are a few “Nordic noir” series that have been gaining traction on Netflix, including the recent release Land of sinwhich made it into the top 10 shows. Krista Kosonen leads the cast as Dani Anttila, a detective from Malmö, Sweden. Dani has a lot to do to get her teenage son, Oliver (Cesar Matijasevic), to go to rehab while dealing with her new partner, Malik (Mohammed Nour Oklah).
Dani’s personal and professional worlds collide when her former adopted son, Silas Duncke (Alexandre Persson), is found murdered. It’s already an ethical quagmire to let Dani anywhere near this case, but the search for the murder suspect hits pretty close to home. Malik doesn’t make things easy for Dani with her by-the-books approach, as she’s not above breaking some rules to get answers.
Land of sin is streaming on Netflix.
